Chapter 1 (18/18+?)

“You young people have no compassion for my health. Nona, say your opinion is not in accordance with theirs, I beg of you”

“I am afraid you should not rely your hope on Nona’s compromising with a side” said Will

“And what would be the reason behind such supposition?” asked Nona curious

“Your philosophy is the reason, my dear”

“You mistake me, my friend. I do not make surmises. However, we might be conversing of a topic that allows me to elect a criterion to choose what argument I shall solemnly endorse”

“If that is the current situation, your choosing of Cândido’s perspective should have me unsettled”

“Why is that?”

“Because if you do not have your thoughts aligned with ours, that means you do not find beneficial the union of a Humenean skeptic with someone who follows a philosophy with a grounding that allows a greater extension of longevity; for the ultimate consequence of the absence of said criterion we both know to be drastic”

“Will, do not jump into inconsistent conclusions. My agreeing with Cândido would only mean I do not find similarities between the Island and the normals territory”

“Do you consider that to be the case?”

“I do not know, I would have to stay in the normals’ territory for a while before reaching a conclusion”

“I am glad you mentioned that Nona” said Jude “have you been assigned to any activities for the evening?” the only answer she received was the curious glance of the philosophers “I mean to invite you to accompany me to the normals’ territory this evening, for I suspect I have discovered where we ought to look for Socrateses” Jude’s eyes had the spark one can find in an incontestably well-accomplished lady.
