Chapter 1 (17/17+?)

“In spite of questioning Jude’s capability of comprehending our problems” intervened Marty “I am prone to finding the Kant/Hume problem outdated, for the couple have already had a son for years and nothing drastic has happened. Hence, it appears to me that this archive should be classified as a ‘not genuine problem’”

“Along with most philosophical ‘problems’” Jude said with a shy smile that had a short duration as she noticed all the philosophers’ critical stares upon her.

“Marty could be right, though” said Will, ignoring Jude’s attempt of humor “perhaps it would even be safe to say that some philosophers are bound to find more affinity with those from different areas than the one said philosopher lives in” he seemed to glance at Nona.

“I happen to fancy Will’s words absolutely precise,” Jude said drawing Will’s attention to her “you people need to expose yourselves to alterity”

“Expose ourselves to alterity!?” Cândido could not contain his agitation when beholding such a statement “Upon my nerves! How could you externalize such words when you, ‘normals’, afraid of the prevailing of the need to conjecture a mutual understanding, refuse to hold a conversation, limiting your entire lives to the loneliness of your differences?”

“You need not actuate your spirits so, Cândido! I have no different intentions than assisting you in your improvement. I do not completely disagree with your accusing the normals of avoiding communication. However, I must add that, on observing you philosophers, we have become wary of the dangers of communication and, since they cannot be avoided, our perspective is to… “

“Jude,” interrupted Will “before you continue your discourse on perspective and its wonders, I must withdraw myself from your position in the discussion”

“Why so?”

“I do not wish to be associated with the consequences of your statements”

“The reality of being the equivalent of your opposite can be mortifying” was Paul’s contribution to the dialogue, which stroke Will with an idea:

“You have presented our situation with excellence, dear Paul, perhaps the Island is not that different from the normals’ territory”

“Horrid! William, how odious I think your words to be!”

“Cândido, I understand you are extremely invested in maintaining everything according to god’s excessively repetitive plan” Marty entered the conversation “however, they might be right! Perhaps in the Island, we do limit our dialogues to people whose thoughts are similar to ours, by the same token the normals limit themselves to their own thoughts”

“You young people have no compassion for my health. Nona, say your opinion is not in accordance with theirs, I beg of you”
