Chapter 1 (17/17+?)
“In spite of questioning Jude’s capability of comprehending our problems” intervened Marty “I am prone to finding the Kant/Hume problem outdated, for the couple have already had a son for years and nothing drastic has happened. Hence, it appears to me that this archive should be classified as a ‘not genuine problem’”
“Along with most philosophical ‘problems’” Jude said with a shy smile that had a short duration as she noticed all the philosophers’ critical stares upon her.
“Marty could be right, though” said Will, ignoring Jude’s attempt of humor “perhaps it would even be safe to…
Chapter 1 (16/16+?)
In the following day, Jude arrived in the room 444 before the philosophers once again; but the waiting was not exceedingly long: soon they were all gathered, sitting on the same chairs as the morning before.
“I have sent the paperwork to the ones responsible for approving solutions and we have a positive answer” started Marty “tomorrow we are to go to the normals’ territory looking for new Socrates”
“You bring wonderful news, my friend! Today we could focus on the archived problems, then”
“Nona, please, let us not work on the Cynics’ situation; talking about them…
Chapter 1 (15/15+?)
Jude was contemplating the whiteness of her sealing and, for the first time, such soothing activity was not successful in containing her restlessness. Her employment on escaping from her thoughts was in vain: she was irresistibly willing to ponder on each of the philosophers’ considerations of that morning, anticipating all the stimulating dialogues she would confront the next day.
However, Jude found her lonely imaginary dialogues not to be enough. Longing for some companionship, she got up and walked to a bar close to her building; but, curiously, its crowded silence was not what her spirits wished…
Chapter 1 (14/14+?)
Will found himself in his chamber in the pragmatics’ section of the Island. He was, similarly to the other pragmatics, elaborating simpler solutions to philosophical inquiries, when he heard a knock on his door. Finding it strange, for the coming of visitors was unusual, Will got up from his chair and approached the door, which, when opened, revealed an uneasy Nona.
“Nona?”
“May I converse with you?”
“Absolutely! Pray, come in” he moved so that Nona could enter his chamber “forgive my failure in foreseeing the coming of my dearest patient, otherwise I would have prepared a…
Chapter 1 (13/13+?)
Cândido’s words could not be more unaligned with the truth. The motive behind Paul’s and Marty’s alternative activities was not pleasure, but rather their resolution that, clearly, whatever they do would be more accurate to their philosophies than what their fellow section dwellers rejoiced in. Besides, their realizing such activities in the company of one another was absolute bliss.
Every day the two would engage in a particular activity, never repeating themselves. Marty found them extremely diverting, for, as an existentialist, exploring the infinite derivations of the nothing was delightful. Paul, on the other hand, as an…
Chapter 1 (12/12+?)
Cândido left the room in the company of Paul and Marty. The first one, noticing his own hasty walking rhythm, immediately stalled his commute home. The other two fancied this attitude nothing else than odd and could not resist the undesired temptation to stare.
“Do not find yourselves worthy of judging me” said Cândido as he gained ground towards Paul and Marty.
“You need not to worry, my friend. We cannot reach the judging state while we are still in the wondering why” Marty.
“If it is in accordance with your will to be my company in…
Chapter 1 (11/11+?)
Nona organized her files back into her fold, said her goodbyes and proceeded to go to the Island’s section where she lived: the skeptics’. Her commute was equal to the other philosophers’ with whom she worked, since the building of the Island’s Administration Center was situated perfectly in the center of the Island.
Succeeding her entering her section, Nona noticed a fellow skeptic in a steady position while staring at an engrossing wall.
“Aristipo?” she called for his attention “what is inducing you to willfully stare at a wall?”
“Nona?” he asks without changing the object of…
Chapter 1 (10/10+?)
“I am not convinced you are fully conscious of the gravity of such a statement” said Jude “you were all prevailed upon to kill a great deal of men so that an order is maintained!”
“Yes, and everything we agree to is according to God’s will” said Cândido to a disconcerted Jude
“Some may conceive death as the end, but the one who says life is man’s ultimate virtue fools oneself, for there is nothing beyond the grandiosity of our freedom” Paul
“It is not possible for us to explain through words the reason to how circumstances…
Chapter 1 (9/9+?)
When the party returned to room 444, there was an envelope placed on the center of the round table.
“The unexpected can be frightening, but there is no feeling resembling the agitation of accepting what the moment offers us” said Paul spotting the envelope.
“An escape from the Cynics’ problem has been handed to us! The Lord is kind and He is on my side!” said Cândido lively when noticing the envelope while they were sitting on the same chairs they were before the coffee break.
“What does it say?” asked Will to Nona who reached for…
Chapter 1 (8/8+?)
“That is astonishing, indeed, a normal person disposed of the will for conversation” said Will.
“Perhaps this disposition is reinforced by the tiring lack of words uttered that I would be forced to endure if in the normals’ company” confessed Jude.
“I, on the other hand, have sufferable days when my spirits are sore by the uninterrupted particularly tedious debates of my section peers”
“I imagine such distress would have an ending on you joining the group who share the philosophy you have chosen for yourself, Cândido” said Marty.
“How unbearable! Are you in the wrong section…
